Weird Tech News: Selfie Stick and True Love Tester

There are always strange inventions cropping up all over the place. Just watch an infomercial and you’ll know what we’re talking about. But this week, we found some crazy inventions that we’d like to share in our Tech News segment. The inventions are just so out there, we couldn’t help ourselves. The two tech news items we’ve found for you are: The Selfie Stick and The True Love Tester.

Selfie Stick

Selfies have quickly taken over social media. Whether you hate the selfie or love the selfie, you can be sure a self-taken photo (or ten) will pop up on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter every single day. The selfie trend was taken to a whole new level when Ellen DeGeneres snapped a pic with some of Hollywood’s hottest celebs at the 2014 Oscars. The star-filled snap quickly became the most retweeted tweet of ALL time with more then two million RTs. When Ellen posted the photo on her Instagram, she captioned it with: “If only Bradley’s arm was longer.” But what IF Bradley’s arm was longer? Imagine how many more celebs would be in this pic (including Jared Leto’s full face). That is why we wish they had known about the selfie stick, the newest tool for making sure every photo (of yourself) is perfect.

The selfie stick is starting a new revolution. This tool is exactly what it sounds like – a stick that allows you to take bigger and better photos without help from anyone else. To be exact, it is an extendable metal wand with a handle at the end that can hold your camera or phone — and it’s only $20 to $30 on Amazon. This trend has already taken off in Singapore! The days are gone where we have to take bathroom mirror pics or look awkward snapping a silly photo in public (because it’s much less awkward to pull out your three foot selfie stick… we think).

True Love Tester

Hey ladies! Guess what? There’s a new bra on the market. The bra was invented by a Japanese company, Ravijour, aptly called “True Love Tester” — and it will unhook only when you’re in love! We bet you’re totally relieved, because you couldn’t possibly decide for yourself when you’re in love without the true love tester. Or want to have sex with someone and be able to unhook your bra if you’re NOT in love. The True Love Tester promotional video explains why this lingerie exists: “Until now, the bra was a piece of clothing to remove, but now it is an instrument to test for true love.”

The video also explains how the bra sends a message to a Bluetooth device that calculates your heart rate and compares it to your “other heart rates.” Some of the “other heart rates” include shopping, eating spicy food (?) and jogging. We’re SO relieved they included jogging, because I was afraid I’d be out running around in my designer bra and it would come unhooked (eye roll). Lucky for us, Jay-Z didn’t give up and they two now have a beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy, together.

Austrialian’s hottest leading man (so, so hot) met his 13-years-older wife, Deborra Lee-Furness when he was only 26 years old. Today, the red-hot couple has two kids (who they adopted) and will be married 18 happy years this April! Seriously, these two are so cute. Hugh is totally in love with his wife… he even admitted that he calls her 10 times a day!

Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer

True Blood costars, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer (who are 13 years apart) get to see each other every day. Clearly it isn’t always a bad idea to date a coworker! Before their auditions in 2008 for the now-hit TV show True Blood, the couple met in the hotel—and it was love at first sight! The vampire couple (well, Stephen plays a vampire on TV) are married with a set of boy-girl twins. This famous couple is one of our absolute favorites.

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves

They met at a bar? Yes, it’s true Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey met his wife at a bar in Hollywood. Matthew was hanging out with his BFF at the time, Lance Armstrong when he spotted the Brazilian model. Six years later, the couple got hitched in Texas. The duo, who has a 14 year age gap, even had fancy tents for their guests to stay in. In addition to their amazing dynamic as a couple, they are now parents to three totally-adorable kids named Levi, Vida and Livingston.

Ellen DeGeneres has always been the type of person to help someone else out. This couple might not have the largest age gap, but they are pretty close. It keeps us in shape and gives us energy, but now it is another preventative step to avoid breast cancer. Women should be taking this seriously because our health is a serious matter. Any steps to avoid breast cancer (or any cancer) should be taken by all women.

As mentioned above, exercise does keep women in shape and helps us to lose weight. But you will never guess what else can help you lose weight. TEQUILA. Researchers from Mexico say that the natural sugars derived from the agave plant are what contribute to the weight loss benefits. In the research, the test mice were protected from obesity and Type 2 Diabetes from these sugars. Unfortunately, this only applies to straight tequila and not margaritas. Regardless, what a great health tip this is for women.

Most women think sleep is always good for our health. Sleep IS good for your health, but it can actually be bad for you to sleep too much. The amount of sleep you need on average differs for each person depending on age and health, but sleeping more than ten hours a night is not healthy for us. It can make you MORE tired and exhausted, which Dr. Lisa Shives calls “sleep drunkenness.” We all wish that sleeping forever would improve our health, but unfortunately science is against us on this one. But that means women should stop worrying about sleep and enjoy the hours we have!

2. Neighbors-Release date May 9 Zac Efron and Seth Rogen (among other hilarious actors) star in this 2014 summer comedy about two warring neighbors. Seth Rogen plays a conservative dad and family man who lives next door to a rowdy frat house. We can’t wait to see this funny summer movie!

3. Maleficent-Release date May 30 Angelina Jolie stars as Maleficent, the Sleeping Beauty villain who curses Princess Aurora. This movie gives Maleficent’s side of the story, as well as filling in more details that weren’t in the original Disney movie.

4. Jupiter Ascending-Release date July 18 We love Mila Kunis in pretty much anything, so we can’t wait to see her in this sci-fi 2014 summer movie by the Wachowski brothers. Channing Tatum also stars in this movie alongside Mila, so you know it’s going to be good. The preview shows Channing rescuing Mila, so maybe there will be a love story (we can only hope) in this movie!

5. Sex Tape-Release date July 25 Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel star in this hilarious-looking 2014 summer movie about a couple who wake up to discover their sex tape they made the night before has gone missing. Wearing monochromatic (AKA head-to-toe in one color) clothing is a fashion trend we just can’t get enough of. Though most people choose to wear almost all one color from top to bottom, we love when everything is the same color.

Kim Kardashian pulls off the head-to-toe monochrome look flawlessly in a gorgeous golden dress and coat. The silk fabric of the dress pairs perfectly with her knee-length wool coat. Kim wears dark-gold strappy heels to round out this golden look.

Oscar winner Lupito Nyong’o rocks the head-to-toe monochrome look by wearing a green patterned dress and mint-green heels. Her Manolo Blahnik heels are to die for! They’re such a good color on her and totally complement her Peter Pilotto mid-length dress. We are loving both of these spring looks.

If you love bubblegum-pink, this is the look for you. American Hustle actress Amy Adams rocked bright bubblegum at a pre-Oscars event. The 39-year-old actress stunned in a Vivienne Westwood dress and nude Christian Louboutin heels.

Can’t get enough of long, flowy pink dresses? Kristen Bell rocked a J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2014 gown at the Veronica Mars Hollywood premiere. With a thigh-high slit and hammered-satin pattern, the 33-year-old actress looked stunning. This look is perfect for spring and we can’t get enough of it!

Mixing Patterns

Recently, Hollywood stars and runway models have been rocking the mixing patterns trend. Julianne Moore flaunted a two-piece mixing patterns dress at a red carpet movie premiere for Non-Stop. The actress (and Ryan Reynolds’ wife) says she will launch a lifestyle brand very soon. “I have so many passions outside of acting and things that I grew up being good at and that I don’t utilize when acting,” Blake spills to Vogue UK. What will her lifestyle brand entail? “The main element of it is that it’s about storytelling and it’s about living a very one-of-a-kind, curated life, and how to achieve that.” It sounds to us like Blake is going to give Gwenyth a run for her money!

In Marc Jacob’s new campaign photos for Spring 2014, Miley Cyrus channels a darker and more chic side of herself. The maroon and deep blue tones are everywhere in Marc Jacob’s Spring 2014 campaign pictures. We love the darker tones and longer-sleeved dresses that Miley Cyrus is wearing in the photos. We’ve had our eye on Keira Knightley since she first appeared in Chanel’s ads, but this Spring 2014 campaign is one of her best! The Chanel brand has been using Keira Knightley as their campaign’s celebrity face since 2007—and it’s totally working. In her latest campaign video, Keira Knightley embodies the deceptive character (similar to a James Bond movie) as she flees from location to location. This is the newest ad in a series of three campaign’s shot for Chanel’s perfume called Coco Mademoiselle — and we are head-over-heels for the fragrance photos. The Hottest New Color? It’s Purple!

Spring 2014 is all about color — and the hottest color is purple! From red carpet looks to beauty trends, the color is everywhere this spring. We can’t wait to try the color as a makeup color and as a clothing option.

Lips

The latest color trend in beauty is definitely purple lipstick. Celebrities like teenage-singer Lorde, actress Camilla Belle and actress Hilary Duff have already rocked the lip on the carpet. These celebrities prove that purple doesn’t come in one shade or style. Lorde wears a lot of dark colored clothing, so she sports a deep lip. Camilla is high fashion and therefore wears a berry purple tint. Hilary is modern so she styles blazers and sleek skirts with a maroon lipstick that we totally love.

Hair

Purple hair, don’t care! locks are one of our favorite ways to rock the spring 2014 color trend. We’ve seen pink and blue hair before, but now it’s all about the purple ‘do. Actress Kelly Osbourne has been rocking variations of hair for years, but finally in 2014 more celebrities have joined the club. House of Harlow designer Nicole Richie is one of our favorite celebs with purple hair. She rocks light the colour locks on the regular and is beyond trendy. Another new face with purple hair is model Ireland Baldwin who sports long strands with edgy moto-jackets and skinny jeans. Purple is powerful and even though dying your hair bright is a bit intense celebs are making it work.

Dresses

The color trend isn’t reserved for only beauty trends. Style is getting in on this spring trend, too! The 2014 red carpets have been full of celebrities strutting their stuff in purple gowns. From short frocks to long evening gowns, this spring style is on fire. Actresses like Freida Pinto, Elizabeth Olsen and Holland Roden have worn spring’s hottest color on the red carpet. Singer Rihanna and British TV host Fearne Cotton have managed to make purple any easy on-the-go color. The dresses are a fun and flirty was to show off your spring style!

It’s only been eight months since Jessica gave birth to her second child (and first son!), Ace Knute. Jessica uses the weight loss program Weight Watchers (and has since giving birth), and it definitely shows! Jessica has finally reached her weight-loss goal. How’d she do it?

Madonna

Rumor has it Madonna is turning to a new diet — called “The Werewolf Diet” — to get her body in shape for spring. The “Werewolf Diet” consists of fasting or only eating certain foods depending on what phase the moon is in. This weight loss program will probably get a lot of attention now that Madonna is behind it!

Outside of the “Werewolf Diet,” maybe Madonna knows what she’s doing. In February, The Queen of Pop traveled to Toronto, Canada for the official launch of her fitness facility, “Hard Candy.” Madonna herself created a class called “Addicted to Sweat” — and they’re based on her daily workouts. The hour-long class focuses on cardio, core work and intensive strengthening. She clearly knows how to work our obsession with celeb weight loss secrets and workouts into a business.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Most people would link Gwyneth Paltrow and her weight loss secret to celeb workout trainer Tracy Anderson. In addition to swearing by Tracy’s workouts, Gwyneth also used another trick from Tracy: The baby-food diet. Apparently, Gwyneth jumped on board with Tracy’s “TA Baby Food Cleanse” which consists of eating pureed peas and carrots (you know, baby food) in order to lose weight.

But the baby food diet doesn’t just involve eating jarred foods from Ralph’s. Instead, Tracy would make a cleanse for Gwyneth that included about 10, five-ounce plastic containers filled with pureed gazpacho, edamame, sweet corn and cauliflower. We aren’t sure how much weight Gwyneth lost following this diet… but we still don’t think we’d try it. Spring 2014’s Top Four Style Trends

Spring has sprung — and that means we get to say goodbye to overweight coats, large scarves and all the layers we pack on to keep warm. Spring means dresses (and lots of them), pastel-hues and all things flirty and fun. From runway to everyday, here are Her Daily’s top four spring style trends for 2014.

1. Pastels Hues

Pastels are almost always a must during the spring season, but in 2014 they are everywhere! From red carpets to runways, we have seen pastel hues all over this spring. Designers like Jason Wu, Rag & Bone and Honor all had pastels in their 2014 Spring/Summer shows. We are loving the pastel blue and pink tones. Celebrities also love the pretty pastel trend. Actress like Lupita Nyong’o, Jessica Biel and Kristen Bell have rocked pastel shades both on and off the red carpet. Her Daily’s personal favorite pastel item this spring is an oversized peat coat in a blush pink. It looks good with any outfit!

2. Borrowed from the Boys

We love totally girly ensembles as much as the next girl but stealing style from the boys is SO in this spring. From button-down collared shirts to full suits, the men are inspiring one of our favorite 2014 spring trends… borrowed from the boys! Ever want to rock a bowtie? What about a tailored suit or oversized collared shirt? This spring you can! Alexander Wang, Rachel Zoe and Ralph Lauren all had touches of menswear in their Spring/Summer 2014 runway shows. Leave it to celeb style icons to be sporting this trend. Singer Beyonce, model Kate Moss and actresses Suki Waterhouse and Kourtney Kardashian have all been trying out the boy-inspired look — and we are big fans.

3. Full Skirts

The girliest trend of 2014? A full skirt! Spring is time to show off your legs and let them see the sun, so break out your full skirt (try a tea length) and you’ll fit in easy. Designers Tracy Reese, Christian Dior and Roksanda Illincic all showed off their different versions of the full skirt at their Spring/Summer 2014 runway shows. From bold prints, to bright colors, full skirts are totally in style for 2014. Some of our favorite celebrities like Kiernan Shipka, Adele, Emma Stone and Hailee Steinfeld have already given the trend a try on the red carpet. Try a floral print to really play up the spring style.

4. White Heels

Spring is all about being fresh and clean—and 2014 is no different. Our favorite shoe trend from the Spring/Summer 2014 runway shows are white heels! From Edem’s white lace platforms and ICB’s platform sneakers to Jason Wu’s simple sandals and Cushnie et Ochs’ white pumps—white shoes are everywhere in 2014. Actresses like Kerry Washington, Jessica Alba, Diane Kruger and Kate Hudson have already hit the red carpet in this white-hot style trend.
